Executive Summary

As the Market Risk (MR) Line of Business grew at JPMorgan Chase, it integrated new functionality without a focused product strategy resulting in a fractured user experience. Depending on the task, users might have to jump between 3-5 platforms (not including communications tools like email or Teams) to complete complex tasks.

As part of a modernization and consolidation initiative, the MR User Experience team proposed a micro front-end–based product solution designed for flexibility and supported by all MR products to provide comprehensive feature rich experience — a one-stop shop for all Market Risk needs.

Goals

  • Auditing existing solutions and Design Exploration
  • Coordinating visual concepts with stakeholders to align on product vision
  • Alignment with UX Research to ensure solution practicality

Understanding the Users

The Market Risk UX team put in a lot of effort to collect data on the Market Risk Product space and created visual assets along the way, so when we started the project there was already an abundance of resources that could be accessed. We leveraged user personas created to define the space as our focus users and tailored our designs to align with their needs. At the same time, we collected design references from recently delivered work that aligned with our goals to educate our designs.

Design Process

While initial research interviews were being conducted, design references and input from Product specific designers and researchers was gathered. A heuristic review of the references was completed and lo-fi wireframes were in time for input from the power user to be collected and integrated i

Understanding the Users

The Market Risk UX team put in a lot of effort to collect data on the Market Risk Product space and created visual assets along the way, so when we started the project there was already an abundance of resources that could be accessed. We leveraged user personas created to define the space as our focus users and tailored our designs to align with their needs.

At the same time, our UX Researcher began outreach with a power user that aligned with our user personas to establish a comprehensive blue-sky list of features and flows.

Design Process

While initial research interviews were being conducted, design references and input from Product specific designers and researchers was gathered. A heuristic review of the references and lo-fi wireframes were completed in time for input from the power user to be collected and integrated. The design process took several weeks and focused on the landing page.

The concept was to be used as a persuasive tool more than for its user flows, but in the it couldn’t be helped that some flows were created to demonstrate micro front-end functionality. After extensive concept exploration and preliminary validation with key product owners, the high-fidelity mock up for the dashboard
